2010 Hair trends to watch for and more importantly ... try!

The new year was recently rang in, which means NOW is the time to take a peek at 2010's hair trends to follow! Updating your hair is a simple and effective way to feel rejuvenated and redefined for the next 12 months to come. Whether its a style, cut or colour ... there are a lot of different options available this season.

"The Long Side Braid"
While 2009 was popular for the milkmaid braid, 2010 has taken the braid to a whole new level. The long side braid has already been seen on Spring 2010 catwalks everywhere. It's an easy, sexy and edgy look that anyone can pull off. The side braid can be worn with any hair colour, bangs, no bangs, middle part or side and will be a trend you will see throughout spring, summer and even the fall this year.

"Long and wavy"
While this look has been a hit for sometime now, it is definitely one to hang onto for 2010. The effortless, "yes I always look this good when I wakeup in the morning" hair is best when hair is long and parted in the middle. It has a bohemain yet very street feel, that looks amazing with any hair colour! Below are a few ladies known for their famous long and wavy locks. (Audrina Patridge, Kate Hudson and Gisele Bundchen)

Red lips ... red hot!

Most women are frightened when it comes to wearing red lipstick. However the "Red Lip" is a classic, sophisticated, versatile look that anyone (yes including yourself) can pull off! With these few simple steps, you too can feel the confidence and power behind the perfect red pout.

#1) First you want to assess your colouring. The paler the skin, the bigger the pop. You want to go easy/light on the eyes and blush. If not, you may risk looking like a clown. Try skipping the eyeliner altogether and just apply mascara to both top and bottom lashes. This will help open the eyes up!

#2) Next you want to be sure to pick the right colour of red for your skintone. If your complexion is pink, you should lean more towards the plum shades. Those with yellow undertones are most flattered by warmer reds that have a brown base. Also, don't be affraid to mix different reds together to get the perfect one for you.

#3) So now that you have found the perfect shade (in both a lipstick and a lipliner) you want to fill the lips in with the liner. (Note that liner will glide on easier if your lips have a lip conditioner on prior. Chap stick will work fine too). Start with the center of your bottom lip and work your way out until you have completely filled in your lips as well as lined them. Red lips tend to bleed, so this will help keep the colour in place.

#4) You want to then apply the lipstick colour over top of the liner. Next, grab a tissue, blot and then reapply lip colour. The blotting will help with any excess product.

#5) For an extra little sheen, try dabbing a clear gloss just in the center of your bottom lip. Not only will this add a little dazzle to the colour, but it will create the illusion of a fuller lip overall.

You have now accomplished the perfect "Red Pout" along with some of my favourite red lipstick fashionistas below!

Makeup tips & tricks 101

. Eyeliner on the lower lash line can actually make your eyes appear smaller. To open those peepers up, line only the upper lid.

. When applying mascara to both upper and lower lashes, start with the bottom and work your way up! By doing the lower lashes first, you avoid the mess caused by the upper lashes hitting the brow area when applying to the bottom.

. Trouble with heavy foundation? Add a couple drops of your daily moisturizer to thin out. The same can be done with a heavy tinted moisturizer. Mix it up!

. Thick, full, well groomed brows are actually more flattering and youthful on any face shape.

. Annoying blemish suddenly appear? Try dabbing a Q-tip into Visine and apply directly onto troubled area. This will instantly help with the redness.

. Natural light is a gals best friend. When applying makeup, try to find a spot near a window or as close to natural light as possible. No blunders here!
